Chicory's Adding a Washer and Dryer Laundry
The original configuration of Chicory had a SSB / Nav desk where there are typically stairs to the master stateroom. We liked this layout since it adds space to the saloon and engine-room. We found over time that we did not use the desk often and that it would make a perfect spot for a stacked washer and dryer.
The first step in converting the space was to add access to the area that would be blocked by the washer and dryer. We gained quite a bit of storage space and a nice cubbyhole for our dog.
We built the enclosure for the washer and dryer out of teak plywood.
This is one of the storage spaces created when building the enclosure.
This shows the test fitting of the washer and dryer in its enclosure.
This shows the view of the laundry from the aft saloon door.
This picture shows the 2" bull nose trim on the front edge of the enclosure. This and the box on top of the unit holds the assembly in place during boat movement. We placed a refrigerator in the stairwell area that previously housed the old combo washer/dryer.
